Amanda ward-Thomas
Amanda’s Paintings are celebration of life, energy and movement, whether it’s a lithe move of a dancer, the mad energy of galloping horses ,or the sweat and exhilaration of the athlete fighting to be first in the race.
The works are vignettes of life, taken at odd angles and colour laid on colour. She looks for the unusual angle the legs, animal or human, the hands, wheels, heads all tumbled together, pushing to the limit of endurance.
The painting technique mimics the energy of the subject, the oil paint applied vigorously using sweeping brush strokes, images blurred in part with just the key elements sharply defined, creating a work that seems to be constantly in flux, moving.
Amanda was brought up in Sussex where she has spent much of her childhood immersed in country life and the exciting world of horses.
She moved to London in her twenties and worked for Tatler magazine and set up her own Interior Design Company. Returning to her roots with her family she embarked on her painting life.
In 2015 she realised another dream and bought a house in France and renovated a studio space. From this artists haven she started running art courses and building up bodies of work for multiple exhibitions.
Amanda’s work has been exhibited in various galleries and is in collections in UK France Italy and USA.
As of 2020 Amanda is one of the Young Artist Partnership (YAP) Guest Artist.
