Chica Seal

The paintings from 2016-2018 show four different characters, Advice and Recital are imaginary figures and scenes, whereas Countess and Lady Hester are both historical figures. Countess is derived from a painting by El Greco, Mary Magdalen in Penitence, 1580. Lady Hester Stanhope (1776-1839) was a British traveller and explorer who I painted as well as a series of other female explorers from the past.
